Listen to “Song of the Ramadan for the Month of Fasting,” sung by a male soloist & accompanied by a female chorus & ‘ud & durbakki players, from the 1951 Folkways album “Folk Music of Palestine.” Today is the 1st day of the month of Ramadan on the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims fast throughout the day in an expression of modesty/submission to God. It is also a time of increased prayer & spiritual meditation.
